Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people. He also achieved the status of a superstar through his pop-folk songs based on folk, with a lot of them being set in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in love with Colorado and later moved to Aspen. Denver's national anthems to his adopted state have drawn many to Colorado. G. Brown of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame says the fact that John Denver is unlike any other artist who embodies Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame ever to be inducted. Denver has been the symbol of Colorado to the everyone around the world. Through my travels I've encountered individuals who are from New Zealand or the other side. If you inform them you're from Colorado The first thing they'll say is"Oh John Denver. Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads written by co-writer Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo performer after a brief stint in small folk bands. Danoff wrote the tune with the inspiration of Johnny Cash, but Denver was able to hear an early version and knew it would become one of the Top 10 hits. The track was released just two weeks following the Washington D.C. performance.
